There are legit documented cases of network meddling, where fear of The Gay Subtext means introduction of female characters to ensure that nobody thinks our manly male protags are a little too emotionally close to each other. 

But guess what, not every single newly introduced female character IS a case of this. Also: dear fandom, gay subtext =/= actual gay. I love slash. I have slash goggles practically welded on. Sometimes I’m even kinda tinhattery. But get a fucking reality check. I’m not saying characters need to come out in order to be gay. But when there is ZERO intent on showrunners’ parts and ZERO intent on the actors’ parts, all the slashy subtext in the world doesn’t make it gay. Slash fans are queering the text, which is lovely. I fully support it. But when you’re actively hating on female characters for coming between your slash ship that isn’t even remotely intended to be canon? You’re not some kind of LGBT advocate. You’re a straight up misogynist.
